ABILITY ; Enhanced vision. Sophie may eventually register the entire electromagnetic spectrum visually; at the moment she just sees infrared and ultraviolet, in addition to the spectrum normally visible to humans. This aspect of her power is "always on", whereas to see details of things far away and/or very small not normally visible to the naked eye, she must consciously "zoom in".

PERSONALITY ; first impression // quick, composed, agreeable
Sophie is, first and foremost, a fixer. She likes things to go well and smoothly, and is never quite happy unless they are. She burns to understand the world, and make sense of it. To date, her luck with that has not been especially good, but she remains undaunted. She also assumes, as a matter of course, that people listen to reason, and when that assumption clashes with reality it can be upsetting.

She takes a certain delight in her own intelligence; not in a smug way, but simply taking pleasure in making connections and finding answers. In addition to her actual studies, she makes a point of getting a thorough if informal grounding in whatever subject catches her interest.

HISTORY ; The identity of Sophie's father has never been particularly clear to her- her mother always just gave the impression that he wasn't around. Mother and daughter kept quite close all through Sophie's childhood with a general life philosophy of getting through come what may- things were never too much to handle, though Sophie found herself having to take care of her mother almost as often as the other way around. She determined to become a doctor more for status and money than for any real love of medicine.

At about the same time as that goal truly became reachable and real to her, her mother married; she still hasn't totally warmed up to him yet, though she doesn't have anything against him, but his "troubled" daughter Beatrice was exactly what Sophie had needed. Not only was she more than smart enough to keep up with her, she had an enviable ability to relax and have fun. As Bea's wild streak was moderated by Sophie's hyperresponsibility, Sophie's stress levels dropped considerably, and before long she couldn't understand how they'd ever gotten along without each other.
